It is interesting to see how the Black Lives Matter movement and protests have gone worldwide (or nearly so) after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in May 2020. From the USA to the UK, protests have been held affirming the rights of the Black man and woman to life, and to not be discriminated against especially by the police.
After seeing all these protests, I am wondering
If any real change will come from these? By the time the protests die down and everybody goes back to their lives, work, business, will we see noticeable change in how the police (and every other racist person) treat the black person? Was there any change from when Trayvon was killed? How about when Michael Brown was shot and killed in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014 by a white police officer? Or when Philando Castile was fatally shot in Minnesota in 2016?
Are there, by chance, people or companies benefiting from these protests? Are they people using it for politics?
Are all those (people and companies) currently supporting the movement truly supporting it or they are doing just it for the aesthetics? In their closets, do they really believe Black Lives really Matter?
What will need to be done to ensure all the gains (if any) from these protests are consolidated upon even when the protests end?
These questions and more are begging for answers.
