The Fate Of Nigerian Universities After The Reopening Of Schools

It seems that the fate of Nigerian universities after the reopening of schools is not a very bright one. The president of the Academic Staff Union Biodun Ogunyemi has stated that Nigerian Universities may not join the schools that will be reopened even after schools are reopened following the end of the pandemic.

He pointed out that any order to reopen schools will not have an effect on tertiary institutions as they are still on strike.

It happened that in March, just a few days after the lockdown, ASUU started an indefinite strike against the federal government after it made the decision of not paying salaries to union members who went against the government’s order of enrolling in the Integrated Personnel Payroll System (IPPIS).

It’s been over 4 months and ongoing since students have been sent home over the corona virus pandemic, do you think it is fair that University students should still remain at home even after schools are reopened just because the federal government and ASUU member did not come to terms on an issue?
