Starting from July 2021, Nigerians will have to submit the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of their phones to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
This was the statement released by NCC stated in the Revised National Identity Policy for SIM Card Registration.
The policy which has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari directed that the Device Management System should be implemented within three months which the intention that this new policy will allow the Nigeria government to be able to identify every phone in use in the country.
Do you think that this new directive is really important in Nigeria at the moment?
First, it was the SIM/NIN compulsory registration, now it is IMEI registration. Is it possible that there is an ulterior motive to this directive asides the one stated? Because, the IMEI can be used to clone one’s phone which will give a complete access to a person’s digital information.
Why the sudden need for every Nigerian digital information by the Nigerian Government?
