It is no news that there is an increased rate of internet fraud and cyber crime in Nigeria and by Nigerians in other countries of the world. And this seems to be a very huge concern to the head of the Lagos Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ahmed Ghali.
On the 25th of May, 2021 during an engagement with critical stakeholders in Lagos, Ahmed Ghali, the zonal head for EFCC, made an appeal to critical stakeholders from the Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, Non-Governmental Organizations, NGOs, the media and even parents to help join hands and put a stop to the menace.
He capitalized on admonishing parents to catch their kids young in doing the right thing and prevent them from getting involved in the internet schemes.
To the EFCC, good parenting/raising kids right happens to be a preventative measure towards discouraging cyber crime, but I believe that the bad economy happens to be one of the leading factors for corruption and internet fraud.
The unemployment rate, recession, lack of opportunities, lack of education and so on, are part of the leading factors why young people engage in cyber crime.
